As usual we woke up after many other hikers have left. I got to use the campsite’s privy, which was a nice change from digging cat holes.

Yeah, I ended up skipping a trail section. I do feel a bit sorry about it, but that’s all I’m going to do with it at the moment.

After a cold but bearable night, I went out to do a rather long day of relatively easy 18 miles, that will get me closer to Big Bear, for an easy 8 mile into town tomorrow. That was the plan.

When I finally got out of the tent, Matt was already gone. This happens to me a lot. I took my time in the morning, as usual, and a hiker passed me even before I headed out. I later learned his name is Tim. The plan was to do a relatively short day, only 14 miles, but with a total gain of 5100 feet. The hike was basically up along Mission Creek, and it was fairly graded and easy most of the day. I passed Tim several times, but I just didn’t have the energy today, and I made a lot of breaks, just staring at the creek’s walls. There was plenty of water during the day, crossing the flowing stream many times. That was nice.

Going to sleep last night I kept getting dizzy when I turned around, and I felt hot and cold, like I was having a fever (I checked yesterday morning, and I had none. But maybe I got some later). But during the night it got better, and I think I got a pretty good night’s rest.
